Ham n Green Onion Chaffle

Chaffles have hit the low carb/ Keto community in a fast and furious manner. How could we resist the challenge on creating our very own Keto chaffle with our favourite breakfast ingredients?

Be careful not to overload your chaffles with too many ingredients! Our first attempt was loaded down with ham and green onions soo much that the integrity of the waffle was broken and it fell apart in the waffle maker. We topped our chaffle with a dollop of our Keto mayonnaise, but you can also use butter or a spoonful of salsa or hot sauce to jazz up your plate.

Our chaffle can be brought back to bare bones basic without the green onions and ham. How about using these bare bones chaffles as a holder for all things keto? A sandwich? A burger? The possibilities are endless. You can even add a serving of your favourite keto friendly sweetener and dress it as a dessert.

Whatever route you choose; we’re betting you will fall in love with chaffles!

Ingredients

For the chaffle

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup cheese, grated
  • 2/3 cup ham, minced
  • 1/2 cup green onion, diced
  • 2 Tbsp almond flour
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste.

Directions

1

Combine all ingredients and place in a waffle maker on medium setting
Cook for about 2 minutes then open the waffle iron to check to see if the chaffle has reached your desired amount of cook. We like our eggs on the lighter side, so 2 minutes is lots for our taste, but yours comfort level might be closer to 3 minutes

To release your chaffle, open the top lid of your waffle maker, gravity will help to remove your cooked chaffle from the grid! Then, instead of trying to scrape off the other side and risk breaking your chaffle apart, turn your waffle maker upside down and release the other side! Works like a charm.
Recipe Variation
Remove the onion and ham and instead add sweetener for a dessert type chaffle! Sliced strawberries and some cream cheese/whipping cream make for a lovely breakfast of strawberry shortcakes.
